New words are exciting. Here’s a good one, courtesy of dictionary.com via YKenna.

frabjous \FRAB-juhs\, adjective:

Wonderful, elegant, superb, or delicious.

My orzo from Whole Foods is a frabjous experience for my tastebuds.

Hilary rarely looks or says anything remotely frabjous.

It is absolutely frabjous outside today; the Wizometer was right to give it an 11.

There ya go – frabjous. Try to use it in a sentence today.

Tai: Wow, you guys talk like grown-ups!

Cher: Well this is a really good school.

The video below depicts a high school girls hurdles race, and it is also proof positive that high school track is a no-cut sport. It is one enormous fail after another, my favorite part being around 34 seconds. You don’t need sound. Credit: Sister.

Holy crap I just watched it again. While I never was subject to this sort of humility in high school (note to high school girls: if you can’t clear the hurdles, quit the team),  I’m sure I managed to embarrass myself on a daily basis. Think about all those uncomfortable situations that we were privy to at that age…I guess I’ve really come a long way – had I witnessed this as a student, I surely would have felt too guilty to laugh and probably would’ve had to look away due to the secondhand awkwardness. Look at me now – pointing and laughing with the rest of them. Maturity is a marvelous thing.

Use Your Words, Vol II

Posted by AllieB on August 3, 2010

So, I was reading COSMO last night – which is embarrassing, but whatever – and I stumbled upon some brand new information in their What’s Hot/Not column.

It turns out that OMFG is a Not – I was always lukewarm about OMFG – and the new Hot equivalent is OMLG.

WTF is OMLG? I didn’t know, the friends with whom I was watching the borderline unbearable finale of The Bachelorette didn’t know…

My goog search results were unanimous:

Oh My Lady Gaga.

Turns out the kids in China started it back in the spring – there’s a FACEBOOK page for it!

  1. How am I so behind on this
  2. Not only was I behind, but my enlightenment arrived by way of COSMO magazine….shameful
  3. I think I kinda like it…

I find the show entertaining, and I’m especially fond of their coined catchphrases (GFA – amazing), but this…this I don’t get.

Use Your Words, Vol I

Posted by AllieB on July 23, 2010

I used to hate phrases abbreviated into acronyms. I think the root of this hatred was HAGS from my junior high school yearbooks. Why can’t you just write, “Have a good summer!” It’s 15 letters. It’s not hard. HAGS really annoyed me – it just sounds so lame.

Now, however, I love them. BTW, FYI, WTF, IMO, IDK, IDC…I don’t remember the last time I wrote out “in my opinion” – or even said the whole phrase out loud.

My personal favorite is AWD’s – after work drinks.

“Anyone up for an AWD?”

“It’s such a nice day – doesn’t an outside AWD sound good?”

“Today sucks, I am definitely going to need an AWD.”
