There are other virtues

Posted by AllieB on August 25, 2010

I’m fairly certain that even the most patient of people have a bout of road rage every now and again. For those of us decidedly lacking in the patience arena, these “episodes” are not infrequent.

I am slightly irked when someone cuts me off then proceeds to travel at a speed that I could surpass on foot. I am somewhat ticked off by random road construction and inconvenient detours. But I am legit furious when some halfwit thwarts my progress through a crowded intersection – that is when I cross over to the dark side.

It happens like this: some jackass decides the NO TURN sign hanging in plain view doesn’t apply to him, and everyone else is forced to just sit there as the traffic piles up, enduring the agony of watching the light change to yellow then red…..AAARGH it just makes me so MAD!!!

I’m a little riled up right now just thinking about it.

While I may not be patient, I am relentlessly optimistic and can find a silver lining on even the darkest of clouds. Today, my sunny outlook on life has reminded me that it’s a good thing I do not live in China, for this simply wouldn’t do.

People were stuck in this SIXTY MILE traffic jam for TEN DAYS. I would off myself.

Monica: Ross, are you okay?

Ross: I’m fine! I saw a psychiatrist at work today.

Monica: Why?!

Ross: On account of my rage.

Scout for the Home

Posted by AllieB on August 24, 2010

My longtime BFF, Nancy Pendergrast Duffey, owns Scout for the Home, a home furnishings and interiors store in Buckhead.

She’s appealed to the masses with her wide array of items: from custom iron pieces and stately armoires to the perfect wooden cheese board that I, and at least four of our friends, purchased as a holiday gift, there’s something for everyone.

I could go on and on about how amazing the store is – I’ve been known to do just that, actually – but I recommend going in for yourself. And you can meet Scout!

Wishlist: My Very Own Room of Books

Posted by AllieB on August 23, 2010

Obviously, Diane von Furstenberg has an eye for design – this is not brand new information.

Her Connecticut home  is featured in the September issue of InStyle magazine, and, inside of this lovely abode, is my dream haven. I would never leave. I would toss a microwave and mini-fridge in the corner (I’m guessing DVF has not equipped her home library with a microwave and mini-fridge), and I’d be happy as a clam.

Mecca, is what this is.

Damn Gina

Posted by AllieB on August 20, 2010

I do not love her on GG, and I certainly do not love her six inch plastic platforms with a tip jar in the soles (seriously? you’re 17), but Make Me Wanna Die, by Taylor Momsen’s band Pretty Reckless, is pretty catchy. I was sure the title was indicative of how I’d feel upon hearing the song, but it doesn’t make me wanna die at all; in fact, I think it’d be good for a running playlist. And I like her voice.

According to a recent interview with Taylor, her look is best described as “high class hooker.” Now that makes me wanna track down her mother so I can commend her on a job well done – what a role model!

Meet & Greet: Hilbilly Bel

Posted by AllieB on August 18, 2010

Allow me introduce my sort-of friend,  Billy.

I think this is a very accurate portrayal of her sweetly meek persona

She – yes, it’s a she – likes softball, chino pants, and the Georgia Bulldogs. You can often find her picking up tank tops at Gap Kids, or singing – that’s being generous, it’s really just a cacophonous assault on the eardrums – to “Rich Girl” at your local dive bar.

GAH, fine. This is the real Billy. She is my bestest and we talk every single day. I miss her because we don’t live in the same city anymore. And I say all of this without any irony.

I still think you’re a big ole pile of Heslop.
