Baxter Bark Twice

Do as I say, never as I do

Yeah…I’m kind of over it.

Posted by AllieB on April 19, 2011

Newsflash: I love all things Kate Middleton. And I really think she would love all things Allie Baxter, if I hypnotized her or tricked her in some way given the chance. I think it’s our uncanny similarities: our path to royalty, our ability to stay poised and collected in the face of turmoil, our impeccable appearance…truly, the list goes on. I cannot wait to see what her dress looks like, and I know the wedding itself will be glorious, but, that said….I am kind of over everyone else’s obsession.

Really, Papa John’s? (The Hairpin)

People are saying that her wedding will be the most watched event ever, in the history of television, and I realize you’d have to be a real dunce to not want to score in on the cash cow that is a Royal Wedding, but it’s become less fun for me, somehow. Ok, wait, I actually just did the research to back my previous statement, and they are expecting TWO BILLION people to tune in. This, plus the 400 million who will watch via other media (online, etc.) will account for over a quarter of the world’s population. Needless to say, the mind reels.

I dunno, I’m just a little bored, is all. I could only make it through half of the Lifetime movie last night, and I am kind of sick of the “speculating” about honeymoon destinations and what her dress looks like. Chill out, peeps, we’ll know when we know. Kate has already told me, telepathically, but I clearly won’t divulge.

I am ever devoted to Princess Kate, and I will absolutely be one of the two billion watching next Friday morning, but I’m going rogue til then – unless you have a fridge wrapping or similar to send me, I’m out.

In other celeb-crazy news: Tim Riggins Beer Popsicles – Tim Rigginsicles. Tina, shall we make some this weekend – some poolside refreshments, perhaps? They give you step-by-step instructions, so it’ll be super easy….

My level of kiddingness is neg.

Do ugly people know they’re ugly?

The quiet ones do.*

BOOM. I had a nice weekend – fairly standard with a side of really fun. I hung out with my peeps, ran a few errands, did a little cleaning, some dart throwing, a LOT of laughing…I also managed to hang on to both my first and last names (‘Allie’ & ‘Baxter’), which is more than I can say for this celebrity kook:

Diddy did it. So did Madonna and Prince, and now you can add Lindsay Lohan to the list of celebrities who are opting for a single moniker, with the troubled star’s mom, Dina, confirming to me that Lindsay plans to remove “Lohan” from her official name. “So many of the greatest people in showbiz are known by just their first name. Look at Oprah and Beyonce. Now you can add Lindsay to that list…” (source: Popeater.com)

[Sigh of defeat] Well, I guess we can all just be relieved that she’s finally been able to pinpoint the source of her struggles: the two syllables of her last name. Problem: solved! This is some solid science, Lindsay Lohan – some very solid science.

I did a good bit of shopping on Saturday, and I had a few observations which I will share with you now:

  • don’t go shopping on Saturday
  • choose a day besides Saturday to do your shopping
  • Monday – Friday and Sunday are your best days for shopping

Le mis. However, I was able to ascertain that I want everything that every store is selling right now. I did some buying, but I still need all of these things (Miriam, this is not an invitation to go out and purchase the whole lot. AHEM Christmas Wishlist.)

  1. Free Dance Top – Anthropologie (that’s what they call it, to me it is a ‘fun shirt’)
  2. Nude Pump – Pour la Victoire
  3. White Flare Jeans – J Brand
  4. Blouse, Shorts, and Belt – J. Crew
  5. Leather Carryall – American Apparel (copying Atlantic-Pacific – my obsession grows daily)
  6. Turquoise Necklace – Kenneth Jay Lane

I wonder why I have such an aversion to color… Sidebar: is anyone else totally fed up with the red haired shopbop model!? I’ve had beef with her since ’06 and it really irks me that she’s still around, like, get another job or something. She’s so…smug.

Wishlist: Dear Santa

Posted by AllieB on December 9, 2010

SANTA! OH MY GOD! SANTA’S COMING!

It’s just not fair – every year there are more things that I need. More designers to choose from, new trends to explore, exciting new genres of gifts that I never even thought about…K opened the door to unique works of art on Etsy (I am a huge fan of this artist), and I never knew what I wanted my dream dining room table to look like until Nancy and Scout came along, and now I don’t know how I’ll be able to settle for anything less.

Clearly I am not asking for a dining room table for Christmas – I’m just sayin’ that there are things I want that I didn’t even know I wanted. In fact, I don’t even really know what I asked for for Christmas…I’m not too worried about it; Santa Baxter usually does a pretty awesome job, and there’s always lots of after-Christmas shopping to do.

Here are some of my greatest wants (needs):

Clockwise from top left:

  1. Flats from J.Crew
  2. Patterned scarf by YARNZ
  3. Framed vintage VOGUE covers
  4. Anything off the shoulder
  5. Chain-strap purse (Tory or whatever – though I do like that snake print…)
  6. AN ADORABLE BLACK LAB PUPPY (this is Hunter; we hang out sometimes)
  7. Burberry Trench
  8. Frye Boots
  9. Updated Snuggie from Brookstone (credit: Kayruh)
  10. I guess I need to see what this Lululemon nonsense is all about
  11. Everyday necklace to go with my cartouche from give a penny. designs
  12. Custom headboard from BedBoards Atlanta (or one from Scout would work, also)

Hmm, pricey. Perhaps I should add in a lucky #13: a winning lottery ticket…

Oh yeah, and #14: world peace.

“Wow, those must’ve been some cookies you made…”

“I didn’t leave him cookies…I left him cheese.”

Morning time ‘za? Don’t mind if I do

Posted by AllieB on August 31, 2010

For years my favorite morning meal, if I happened to be craving grease, was a breakfast sammy from Panera. I’m pretty sure the main ingredient actually was grease and that the croissant, egg, and bacon were just there to help soak it up.

However, perhaps because of my old age, I can no longer handle the heaviness of the aforementioned morning treat – my stomach does not want.

I was browsing Eater National the other day – it’s a terrific website and I really hope they start one for Atlanta soon – and found a link to an article from the NYPost: “Have A Slice for Breakfast.”

“Who wouldn’t like pizza for breakfast?” asks Robert Berry, chef at Chelsea restaurant Cookshop and creator of a sophisticated bacon and egg version. “It’s got your carbs, your veggies, your protein — it’s really a nutritious breakfast.”

Who wouldn’t, indeed. The five options the article shared are all in NYC, and my favorite was Chef Berry’s: spinach, bacon, egg and goat cheese pizza.

Egg on pizza isn’t really a novel idea, either, but the idea of intentionally seeking out fresh-made pizza for breakfast, I suppose, is. I’ve done some research, and it appears that ATL hasn’t quite caught on to this trend. I’ll be waiting ever so patiently until we do, and, in the meantime, settle for a cold slice of the Fellini’s I had last night.

“Pizza for everybody!”

Wishlist: My Very Own Room of Books

Posted by AllieB on August 23, 2010

Obviously, Diane von Furstenberg has an eye for design – this is not brand new information.

Her Connecticut home  is featured in the September issue of InStyle magazine, and, inside of this lovely abode, is my dream haven. I would never leave. I would toss a microwave and mini-fridge in the corner (I’m guessing DVF has not equipped her home library with a microwave and mini-fridge), and I’d be happy as a clam.

Mecca, is what this is.
