Friend or Foe?

Emoticons: Friend or Foe?

BBT says…FRIEND! I’m a convert. Well, within reason. For instance, used sparingly in emails amongst friends, emoticons can be the perfect touch of irony or sincere emotion. I will say, I think it’s best not to cross the gender barrier with smiley faces, at least not until you’ve established specific boundaries pertaining to their use. Personally, I like the occasional :) or :( but, and I think this goes without saying, my most favorite and oft used is The Flat Face :| There are few such evocative combinations of punctuation marks.

Chris Brown: Friend or Foe?

FOE! He was very scary on Good Morning America yesterday (which I did not see until this AM when the Today show aired the clip – Betsy, Pal, and anyone else who watches GMA: you are dumb.). Get it together dude, people were just starting to forget what you did to Rihanna’s face. I definitely like Yeah 3X, but this Dennis Rodman alter-ego has gosta go.

William & Kate Lifetime Movie: Friend or Foe?

Duh. [countdown date=2011/4/18-21:00:00] [timer] until the Premiere!!! [/countdown]

So, I still want to do another survey, but I need your help. I’m even sharing a real email address (alliebaxter@gmail.com) to which you can send your thoughts. I’m dead serious: help a lady out.

In the meantime, I will be working on my own, much more interesting version of March Madness (credit: Kacy Lerkhof). I am much better equipped to predict the outcome of Pimento Cheese v Country Ham Biscuit (obviously the former – by an embarrassing margin) than that of two, in my mind, random basketball teams.

Mmmm Tasty

I miss J Simps :(

Two of Georgia’s most acclaimed culinary artistes, Hugh Acheson and Linton Hopkins (Westminster Class of ’85…!), have made it past the second round of the illustrious James Beard Foundation Award nomination process. A has wisely suggested that we do a tour of their local eateries to show our support. In ATL we could go to Empire State South for Hugh and HF for Linton (I’m lumping Eugene into HF – hope that’s ok), and then go on our annual spring sojourn to Athens and visit The National and Five & Ten. A: I’m so in I’m almost out.

my ethos likes their ethos. www.thenationalrestaurant.com

I love meal-centric excursions. I’ve been known to go out of my way for something I really, really wanted…

  • Rio Bravo, Spring 2002. Sydney and I really wanted homemade tortillas, and I called around Athens to see if anyone made them…On the Border tried to connect me to their wholesale tortilla dealer in El Paso. Um, I think not OtB. We drove the 45 mins to Pleasanthill Road to indulge in the doughy deliciousness and strawberry daquiris. RIP Rio Bravo.
  • Philly Connection, Winter 2004. There was one outside Watkinsville attached to a suspicious off-brand gas station…I had three failed attempts before I finally made it. Partially due to my questionable sense of direction, this was also because I was always sure I had gone too far and was about to wind up in Deliverance. It was worth it, though, when I finally made it – Philly Connection is always worth it.

TMI. I feel like I should talk about something other than food…yoga! I did yoga yesterday. I am zen; Meet & Greet Yogi Allie; my inner peace has found peace.

And, lastly, my most favorite part of today: in honor of  WJWIII’s birth….

Ants in my pantalones

Posted by AllieB on March 21, 2011

The weather forecast for this week is the bomb. There needs to be an immunization for Spring Fever or something, because I have a very hard time functioning when it’s a cloudless 77 degrees outside. And the flowers, they are blooming…! The tulips outside Cathedral of Christ the King on Peachtree are worth a drive/walk by, seriously. Even if you have no mind for flowers, if you like pretty, bright things, like toddlers and I do, then you should check them out.

Worthy of note:

Take this survey and get a free burrito from Willy’s (or your choice of menu item). It takes about 8 – 10 minutes, and it’s worth it.

I just finished Steve Martin’s newest novel, An Object of Beauty. I loved it! Couldn’t put it down. The main character, Lacey, is pretty annoying but nevertheless engaging, and it is also an interesting examination of the art world, both from an artistic and business point of view. There are reproductions of the works that are referenced specifically, and I actually learned a lot – Steve Martin knows a LOT of words. I realize this is hardly an enticing review for the average novel reader, but don’t let it deter you – it’s very easy to read, and there’s plenty of sex, drugs, and scandal (not too much – Mom, you can still handle it), it just happens to have lots of facts, too. Highly recommend.

I want to be this girl. She has a blog, Atlantic Pacific, and it’s awesome (credit: K). She gets dressed in fantastic outfits, her cute boyfriend takes her picture, then she posts the pics on her blog and gets tons of free clothes from designers. Must.Be.Nice. She went to the University of Florida and worked for Gap/Old Navy for awhile, and now I think she’s just a fashion consultant (you can find out a lot about people on LinkedIn…), more or less. What is pretty cool is that she lists where gets all her stuff, and while her YSL bags aren’t so much an option, she gets lot of things from Madewell, Zara, American Apparel, and other reasonable places…she reminds me of Sienna Miller, and I LOVE Sienna Miller.

I just booked a ticket to go visit CKB…! SoFLA, here I come!!!

The odds are good, but the goods are odd

Posted by AllieB on March 18, 2011

Bless her heart, Kate is requesting that, in lieu of wedding gifts, people make charitable donations in their honor…she’s such a person of the people. Although, I suppose that marrying into the Royal Family sort of precludes having to register for monogrammed bath towels and silver picture frames. IRREGARDLESS, I appreciate the gesture.

My current obsession re: the World Wide Web is this site Dear Blank, Please Blank. For instance:

Dear Saturn,
I liked it, so I put a ring on it.
Sincerely, God

Not so much? I laughed. Let’s check in with the Hungover Owls and see how they’re doing…

“To be honest, man, I’m not really feeling up to anything right now. Or ever again, for that matter.”

Captain Obvious says, “Today is FRIDAY!” Sometimes I love Cpt. Obvi.

Who all seen da Leprechaun say Yeah!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

I’m a big fan of the Irish. They’re just so much fun and often very funny and I could seriously listen to them talk all day – I freakin love their accents. After the woman died on my plane on the floor next to me whilst en route to Paris last summer, we had to swing by the Shannon Airport to have her.. removed…and the Irish EMT’s were totally adorable and even managed to make light of a decidedly not breezy situation. To show my appreciation, I’ll be sure to celebrate St. Patty’s Day with extra enthusiasm this year.

Down in Savannah, where Hilary is what Godzilla was to Tokyo lives, St. Patrick’s Day is a legitimate holiday, and I’m very jealous of her day outdoors in a town with no open container laws - smart people, these Savannians. Maybe I’ll sneak a green beer into my office…could put it right in a Diet Coke can…

Happy Birthday to you, Flembot!! Love, The Creepy Old Man Dressed Like a Leprechaun

from: caplanmiller.com

Frau Farbissina: It’s a television commercial. With this cartoon leprechaun, and all of these children are trying to chase him, “Hey, leprechaun, leprechaun man, we want to get your lucky charms.” Oh! And there are these little tiny pieces of mashmallow just stuck right in the cereal. So when the kids eat them they think, “Oooh this is candy, I’m having fun!”

-a timely funny from Austin Powers

Señora Matheson, can we have class outside today?
